GREAT NEWS!!!!  We have The Reverend Keith Joyce joining us for the foreseeable future.  He will start on October 2nd, and we hope to see lots of faces here to greet him on his first Sunday with us.

As of August 2022, the Romero House cooking crew has completed their outreach project.  After two and a half years the team decided it was time to hang up their aprons.  We can’t’ thank the congregation enough for all the support provided over that time.  The remaining funds in the account will be donated to Romero House.

PARISH UPDATE APRIL 26, 2022:

Family of the Church of the Good Shepherd,

Just a short note to let you know what is happening in our church.  Going forward we will have our Sunday service led by the Venerable Keith Osborne.  We are very fortunate to have him at this time.

Rick Cunningham has offered to lead the youth group on Wednesday evenings with Judy Mae.  Since he is still working full time as a firefighter, we may need a volunteer occasionally to help with this outreach.

Archdeacon Osborne is looking into online bible study groups for us.  He has a few leads and once we know the details we will share.

May 22 we will have our Kenyan Rite service and L.I.F.T will be hosting our after service coffee hour.  We hope you can join us.

May 28 the men’s group will once again be cooking for the Biker’s Breakfast – Blessing of the Bikes.  This is a great meal and is open to everyone in the community who would like to come in.

APRIL 14, 2022 - A message from Wardens and Vestry

Passing of Rev. Jonathan Springthorpe

It is with great sadness that we must inform our church family of the passing of Reverend Jonathan Springthorpe on April 13, 2022. Our thoughts are with Kristen, Eli, Jeremy and Olivia at this time; please keep them in your prayers.

Bishop Edwards will be stepping in to officiate the Holy Week services for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Our traditional Easter Vigil is cancelled but we will have a congregational gathering after the Good Friday service for any that would like to stay.

Once we know what the family wishes for arrangements, we will share that.

SUNDAY APRIL 10, 6TH SUNDAY IN LENT - PALM SUNDAY:

Dear Parishioners,

I pray that this week you will take time to ponder and meditate on the events of Passion Week.

This doesn't have to take a lot of time or require any special skills. If you are able just take a few minutes to imagine Jesus going through the events that occurred during the last week of His life leading up to the Crucifixion. Just allow yourself to think about the events that occurred on each day. Here is a link to a website with a timeline of the last week of His life as found in Scripture. May God bless your week!

MARCH 16, 2022 PARISH UPDATE

Dear Parishioners,

The Covid Committee met last week to discuss our transition into the new normal. As you know the government lifted all Covid measures on March 14th. Our first service without any government mandated restrictions will be this coming Sunday March 20th.

Please note the following changes:

  • We will no longer need to register for services or record attendance for contact tracing.

  • Masks will no longer be required though if you wish to continue to wear one please feel free to do so.

  • We will no longer need to maintain a physical distance from one another though if you wish feel free to do so.

  • We will continue to have hand sanitizer available in the Narthex and as people come up for communion.

  • The books will be back in the pews.

  • We will leave the collection plates where they are for the time being but counters will be able to count the offering on Sunday after church if they wish.

  • For the time being we will continue to share the peace by waving to one another as we don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable if they are not ready to shake hands or give hugs just yet.

  •  We will be serving communion in both kinds (bread and wine) though for the time being we will be serving the wine in the little cups only.

If you have any questions or feedback please let me know,

thanks,

Jonathan

MAR 6/22 SERVICE & UPDATE

Dear Parishioners,

We started our journey in Lent this past week. I encourage all of you to enter into a holy lent by reading Scripture and spending time in prayer. Whether we give up anything in Lent or not I hope you will take some extra time to spend it with God. One of the ways that we enhance our worship leading into Easter is by taking time to prepare our hearts during Lent. One of the ways I absorb Scripture is by listening to an audio Bible. The Scripture is read and I simply read along or just listen to the words and allow them to stir in me some reflection upon it. Audio bibles used to be only available on cassette tapes or c.d.s and they used to cost quite a bit.

Now you can listen to an audio Bible online and for free. Here is a link to an audio Bible online.

JAN 30/22 SERVICE AND PARISH UPDATE:

Dear Parishioners,

It looks like some of you were praying for David, Bruce, and I as we finished the service an hour ago and we had success! Below is a link for the service for Sunday. The video will be available after 4pm and you can view it anytime you like. As you likely already know the Provincial government has moved us back to Covid Level 2 starting tomorrow but we felt that it was too quick to change back to in person services for this Sunday. Not to mention the storm that is coming and the roads may not be cleared in time. We will resume our in person services next Sunday February 6th. Please register for the service by calling or emailing the office.

Here is a link to the service we produce for this Sunday:

Important Announcements:

On Sunday February 13th we will have our Sunday service at 10:00am so please take note of the service time change. We will have the service at 10:00am because our Annual General Meeting will take place directly following the service. We hope to start the AGM shortly after 11:00. We will have take-out lunches prepared for the end of the AGM so that you don't have to worry about rushing home to prepare lunch. If you would like to make a donation toward your lunch you are free to do so. I want to encourage everyone to come to the AGM as we have some important presentations from the Mission Action Plan and the Financial Future Committee. We will have the Annual Report ready by the middle of next week.

Sunday, Jan 23/2022 - Third Sunday after Epiphany (HC-BCP):

Dear Parishioners,

We had another adventure this week when we tried to record the service for tomorrow. There was a glitch on the recording device that we used and after completing what I thought was a good service with beautiful music by David and great reading by Bruce we had no video file at the end of it. We promise we will get the bugs worked out for next Sunday. In the meantime here is a link to a video that I have compiled for worship tomorrow. It is an abbreviated BCP Morning Prayer service with music by David and a sermon that I preached back in 2013 that I have chosen especially for this time. I pray that God blesses you through the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j42Mv9s0DLg

From the information in the news it sounds like we are on track to move back into Level 2 of the Provincial Covid Plan starting on January 31. If this occurs then we will resume in person services starting February 6th. I will send out an update as soon as I hear the official word. We will postpone the start of the Bible Study moving it to start on Feb. 1st all being well.

Our Annual General Meeting is planned to go ahead on Sunday February 13th. Please save the date. There is a rumor that we might have take-out lunches prepared for all who come to the AGM. We will be having two important presentations at the AGM so I really encourage as many of you to come as possible. Please save the date!

In Christ,

Jonathan

January 16, 2022 Service & Update:

Dear Parishioners,

I pray God will bless you this afternoon. David and Bruce and I met this morning to prepare a full length service for you. We had a few hiccups. First the heat in the church had not turned on so it was 7 degrees in the sanctuary when David arrived. Next once we had completed the whole service in the cold we realized that the video camera had not recorded any of it. So we decided to do a shortened service for the second take. The shortened service is about 20 minutes in length and the link is below (two songs, the gospel, sermon, and prayer). I pray this service will bless you!

God bless, stay safe and warm.

Please send your reports in for the Annual Report as soon as possible if you have not sent it in already. Please send it electronically to Lori in the Office.

January 13, 2022: Parish Update

Dear Parishioners,

As you likely know the Provincial Government announced this afternoon that we are moving back to Level 3 Lockdown as of Friday at 11:59pm. This means that all in person worship services will be suspended for the next 16 days due to our hospital system in “crisis”. For the next 3 Sundays we will not be able to worship together in the church. We will however produce a worship service and put it on YouTube early Sunday afternoon. Please keep David Mitchell, Bruce and I in prayer as we switch to an online service in a matter of a few days.

I know this is frustrating and it is hard to go back a step but we must do all we can to support our government and our health care providers. Please pray for our hospital staff for strength, wisdom and endurance to meet the rising case numbers. Pray for God’s healing for all patients.

The Office will remain open for the regular hours: Tuesday to Friday from 9:00am till 1pm if you wish to drop off your offering. Contact Lori for details on dropping them off with no contact.

I will send out another update on Sunday.

In Christ,

Jonathan

One week today is our Christmas Cantata:

On December 12th, as part of our morning worship, the Church of the Good Shepherd Choir, under the direction of David Mitchell, will present FESTIVAL OF CHRISTMAS written by Mary McDonald and orchestrated by Michael Lawrence. This Cantata was composed for a world premiere on the main stage at Carnegie Hall in 2020. The preparation of this gorgeous 30 minute work has been a labour of love. Come to church on December 12 prepared to be uplifted and blessed.! And watch for a surprise from a well-known figure in our community and his friends.

In Christ,

Jonathan
