SUNDAY, MAY 2, 2021 - Fifth Sunday of Easter (HC-BCP)

Dear Parishioners,

May is upon us. I don't know how many of you are gardeners but Kristen and I are trying our hand at gardening this year. We are planting herbs and flowers. The herbs are just starting to come through in our dining room window. It reminds me of new life and hope. In our Gospel passage today Jesus says, "I am the vine and you are the branches". Jesus is the source of our life, growth and vitality. Here is the service from today for those who are not able to attend.

APRIL 25, 2021 - FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER (HE-BAS)

Dear Parishioners,

With the nice weather we have been having these past few days it is starting to feel like spring. My hopes rise with the coming of spring and sometimes I forget that we are still in the middle of a pandemic. I just want things to go back to normal. I am sure you do too. The Book of Revelation tells us that we must endure patiently the trials and tribulations that we face. I pray for you to look to God who will reveal His will for us.

APRIL 18, 2021 - THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER (HC-BCP)

Dear Parishioners,

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 24 Jesus says "Peace be with you".

In our world today we tend to think of peace as the end or absence of conflict or a peaceful feeling. The Hebrew word for Peace which is Shalom communicates so much more. The Hebrew word Shalom wishes the recipient  "peace, harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity, welfare and tranquility". Because of the death and resurrection of Jesus we have peace with God and that peace is a blessing of harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity, welfare and tranquility. May God's peace rest upon you this day!

MAR 14, 2021 - 4TH SUNDAY IN LENT (HE-BAS)

Dear Parishioners,

It really is starting to feel like Spring. Although I was born in England I grew up on the West Coast of Canada in Abbotsford, B.C. and there spring flowers start to blossom in February. It took me a good five years here on the East Coast to realize that spring doesn't fully arrive in the Maritimes until late April so I'm not putting my snow shovel away yet (but soon)!

It was nice to see a couple of faces in church that I have not seen in a while due to Covid. I want you to know that you are missed when you are not present. There are some of you we have not seen in the past year. We are thinking and praying for you. Here is the video of today's service. I pray that it blesses you.

MAR 7, 2021 - 3RD SUNDAY IN LENT (HC-BCP)

We are now into our Third Week in Lent. I pray that your Lenten journey is going well. Remember to set aside time to pray and reflect on our LORD's journey to the cross. Setting aside time to read through a whole Gospel is a great exercise in Lent. Another exercise for Lent for this year has been brought to us by Janet Brown and Terry Ricketts and it is called 40 Days of Kindness. The next 7 suggestions are:
15. Make a handmade gift.
16. Wave someone in to merge during traffic.
17. Drop off goodies to the fire department.
18. Give a friendly wave to a neighbor.
19. Pick up litter.
20. Give a plant clipping away.
21. Drop off mittens and hats to a shelter.

Here is our service from Sunday morning (Mar 7th). I pray that it blesses you!

FEBRUARY 21, 2021: First Sunday in Lent (HC-BCP)

Dear Parishioners,

Our journey into Lent has begun. I pray that your journey will be full of prayer and contemplation and reflection. I also pray that your journey will be one of action. Terry and Janet have come up with a unique way to practice kindness in Lent:

LENT CHALLENGE - JOIN US TO SPREAD 40 DAYS OF KINDNESS!

We have laminated 8" × 14" sheets with 40 ideas to spread kindness each day in Lent, and hung them all along the wrought iron fence in front of the church - about 4 ideas on each sheet. Look for them on the fence in front of the church for ideas and start your journey to brighten someone's day with kindness each day in Lent!

Click on the button "LENT - 40 DAYS OF KINDNESS" at the top of this page for kindness ideas!

We will cover 12 sessions on the Old Testament this spring and then 12 sessions in the fall on the New Testament. If you want to make 2021 the Year that you grow in Bible knowledge then this series is it! The 12 sessions in the spring will start on Feb. 23rd and run till May 4th. We will start at 7pm and go until 8:30pm. We will also be offering this online at the same time through Zoom if you are not able to come to the church.

FEBRUARY 7, 2021 EPIPHANY V (HC-BCP)

Dear Parishioners,

May we run our race with perseverance! Like many of you the toll of the restrictions during this Covid pandemic is wearing on me. I have to remind myself that things will not be this way forever. During times of testing it is important to remember to take time out and spend time in prayer with God. Don't let the pandemic keep you from growing in your relationship with God. In today's Gospel passage Jesus withdraws from the crowds to spend time with God. If Jesus needed to do that and He was fully God and fully human then even more so for us.

Here is the link to today's service. I pray that it blesses you.

DECEMBER 13, 2020 - 3RD SUNDAY IN ADVENT

Dear Parishioners,

I have to say that I have been moved by your generosity. Today was White Gift Sunday and we prayed for God to bless the gifts and groceries that you have brought in to help 30 local families to have a better Christmas. The gifts that piled high at the front of the church is a witness to the love of Christ in your hearts and a witness to God's love for the people who will receive them! This on top of the gifts that went to The Seafarer's Mission just a week ago.

I am glad that we have returned to the Yellow Phase of the Covid-19 Recovery here in New Brunswick. Thank-you for wearing your masks and for all of the volunteers who help out every week.

Here is a link to today's service. Thank-you to David Mitchell for all of his hard work on our services.

NOVEMBER 29, 2020: 1ST SUNDAY IN ADVENT

Dear Parishioners,

In the time of Advent we are waiting for God's saving power to come in full when Christ returns to the earth. During this time of waiting there can be dark times. We are living in times in which sometimes the good in the world especially present in those who follow Christ are overshadowed by destruction and famine and sickness. I ask you to continue to pray for those suffering the effects of Covid 19 and for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one due to the same. Please lift up in your prayers our local hospitals and nursing homes. Our prayers do make a difference. May God bring healing to those who have caught the virus and keep us safe from further harm.

I would like to acknowledge and thank the Covid 19 Committee for their continued work on keeping the risks to a minimum. The members of the committee are Bruce, Sharon, Terry, Patti and myself. Thank-you also to the Altar Guild and all of our volunteers who are committed to bringing worship services together each week. Thank-you to David and our Choir who have tirelessly worked on our music for each service. Hours go into what we hear on Sunday mornings.

Congratulations to the Simpson family on the Baptism of Andi Jane Simpson in today's service. I pray the service blesses those who were not able to attend in person.

Here is the link for our service from this morning.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukjNUBVL-QA

Thank-you to all who donated gifts to the Seafarer's Mission!

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2020:

Dear Parishioners,

I wanted to write to you and give you an update since Saint John went to the Orange Phase of the Covid 19 Recovery Phase. We are still planning on going ahead with our two services at 9:00 and 10:30am but the limit of people that are allowed at each service is 50. We are choosing to keep all of our services from here on at a limit of 50 people. This includes all volunteers who help out. This means that everyone will have to register for each service that they attend beginning with this Sunday Nov. 29th. Please call the Office and speak to Lori if you are planning to attend. This Sunday will be the Baptism of Andi Simpson so space may go quickly. I realize that many of you may choose to stay home because of the Covid cases in Saint John. I want you to know that I fully support your decision. Each of us must make decisions based on our own health and our family situations. The most important thing is for each of us to remain healthy during these uncertain times. If the situation changes and the government moves us from the Orange phase to the Red then obviously all services will be cancelled until we move back to either Orange or Yellow.

God bless,
Jonathan

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2020:

Dear Parishioners,

Due to the outbreak of new cases of COVID-19 in the Saint John area we have decided that it is best to cancel both services tomorrow. We will meet on Tuesday to reassess the situation for next Sunday. May God heal all with the virus and keep us safe.

Thank you,

Jonathan

Dear Parishioners,

Here is our Remembrance Service from today. Thank-you to David Mitchell and the Choir for their dedication and talent. Thank-you to Bruce Macleod for all of his work on our service PowerPoints. Thank-you to Grenville for laying our Good Shepherd wreath for Remembrance Day. Join me in praying for our Veterans and those who serve in the military. This year will be a hard year for many of them as the normal Remembrance Day Ceremonies are not able to go ahead as they normally do. I pray this service blesses you.

There are several ways you can help out this Christmas to minister to local families and Seafarers:

Christmas Baskets:

We will have our Christmas Tree in the Narthex this coming Sunday. You can pick a tag off the tree to buy a non-perishable food item or a gift for a child. We are sponsoring 30 local families with groceries for Christmas. We supply the groceries needed to have a hearty Christmas dinner along with gifts for the children.

Seafarers:

You can also pick up items for Seafarers which we will drop off at the Seafarer's Mission located here on the Westside. There is an attachment on this e-mail with a list of items that you can pick up for these men and women who spend months away from their families in order to put food on the table. They are most appreciative of your gifts.

Bible Study:

Tuesday at 7pm in the Small Hall.

Confirmation Class:

Wednesday at 6:30pm in the Sunshine Room.

PENTCOST XIX (HE BAS)  OCTOBER 11, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

Happy Thanksgiving! I imagine many of you are gathered with your families or close friends to celebrate Thanksgiving Sunday! I pray God's presence will be with you around your tables.

Let us also pause to pray for those who are not able to gather with family or friends due to the recent outbreak of Covid cases in our province. Lord, bless them and heal them. Be with all nurses and hospital staff who care for the sick. Thank-you for the many blessings in our lives from you! We give thanks to the LORD for He is good and His love endures forever!

Here is the link from today's service for those who are not currently able to join us on Sunday at 9:00am or 10:30. I pray the music, Scripture and prayer bless you!

Many of you are aware of our financial appeal, "Reaching The Kingdom" that was kicked off in September. For those who are not aware, there are four pictures in the Narthex that are covered with envelopes. Each envelope has a dollar amount listed on the outside ranging from $1.00 - $200.00. We are appealing to the congregation to consider an additional donation toward the operating budget of our Church and parish as we have a financial gap of about $15,000 for this year. If you would like to participate but cannot come into the building then please consider choosing an amount up to $200.00 and sending it by e-transfer or by sending a check by mail. We thank-you for your ongoing financial support! Your tithes and offerings make many ministries possible to many in our community.

Bible Study continues at 7:00pm on Tuesday in the Small Hall

Confirmation Class continues at 6:30pm on Wednesday in the Sunshine Room.

PENTECOST XVII (HE-BAS) SEPTEMER 27, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

As I drove to Grand Bay to pick my son up from playing basketball I noticed the fall colors. God's creation always amazes me. When I think of all of God's creation from the smallest insects to the largest creatures I often pause in wonder as to the mind and creativity of God.

I hope you are enjoying the fall colors.

I am pleased to see the number of people in church between the two services. I know that it is not yet back to normal but it is wonderful to see people in person. If you were not able to make one of the services today here is a link to the video on youtube. I pray that the music and Scripture blesses you.

PENTECOST XVI (HC-BCP) SEPTEMBER 20, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

The fall programs are back in full swing. On Wednesday night at the church there were multiple groups bumping into each other- the A.A. Group, the Confirmation Class, the Choir, and the Painting Crew. It was wonderful to see so many people doing all kinds of activities. It reminds me of the church pre-Covid. I pray that we see a vaccine in the near future and that things return to as near to normal as possible.

Just a reminder that we are changing the second service time from 11:00am to 10:30am going forward. We will still have the 9:00am service.

"Jesus and Me" Sunday School kicked off today. Thank-you to Terry, Janet, and Beverly.

Confirmation Class is Wednesday at 6:30pm.

Bible Study on Deuteronomy starts Tuesday Sept. 29th at 7pm.

Here is the service from today- I pray that it blesses you.

PENTECOST XV (HE-BAS) SEPTEMBER 13, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

We are now into the fall temperatures and programs. We will soon have all of the leaves turning into fantastic fireworks. We really hope that you will join us this coming Sunday September 20th for our Welcome Back Sunday! For those who cannot make it we will continue to record the 11:00am service. Here is the link to our latest service from this morning: https://youtu.be/DgT0diYtY_k

Confirmation Class continues on Wednesday at 6:30pm at the church

Bible Study on Deuteronomy begins Tuesday September 27th at 7pm in the Small Hall.

Our Jesus and Me Sunday School Program (JAM) starts up this coming Sunday! I think they are using Skittles candy- I wonder what that's about?

We hope that you will receive the latest edition of our Newsletter this week if you have not already received it. There is good news to share! A big thank-you to all who contributed to it (especially Deanna for formatting it).

May God bless you this week!

In Christ, Jonathan

8TH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY (PENTECOST IX) - AUGUST 2, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

I hope you are well and are able to go outside and enjoy some of the wonderful weather we are having this summer.

I apologize as I do not have a video of today's service. We did film one but during the editing process I accidentally deleted it after a solid hour of work on it. I will film next week's service and put it up without incident God willing. If you would like to hear some of the best sermons on the internet then I would recommend checking out https://www.oneplace.com/ and look up some of my favorite preachers: John MacArthur, Chuck Swindoll, Dr. David Jeremiah, or Charles Stanley. Any of these preachers are worth your time.

A reminder to you that we will be having a service of Evening Prayer Wednesday at 6:30pm at the church for those who would like to attend. You do not need to pre-register for the service.

God bless and have a good week!

In Christ,

Jonathan

We also can accept e-transfers if that is preferable to you.

Dear Parishioners,

I trust you are well. Here is the link for today's service. I hope it will bless you particularly those who are not able to attend our church services. Please keep those in nursing homes in your prayers and those who are on the front lines. I know things have loosened for us in New Brunswick but there are still parts of our country that are deeply affected by Covid 19.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGWJilBff9g

This coming Wednesday at 6:30 we will start our summer evening services. There is no need to register beforehand as attendance is not usually that high though we will have a sign in sheet to record the names of those present. We will alternate each week between the BAS and the BCP.

God bless,

The Rev. Jonathan

4TH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY - JULY 5, 2020

3RD SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY - JUNE 28, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

I hope you have been enjoying the wonderful weather we have been having. I am glad to see so many of you coming to church these past few weeks. I also understand those who are not able to join us yet. We will continue to produce a video of the service for those who are not able to come.

We had communion today for the first time since March and I think it went quite well. Thank-you to our Layreaders, Readers, Greeters, Counters, the Altar Guild and Lori, David, Sharon, Bruce and all who have volunteered to help in adjusting to the new guidelines. I appreciate all of your work and flexibility.

The Government of NB has lifted the cap of gatherings to greater than 50 people provided we are able to physically distance from one another while in the church building. For this reason and the time of year we are moving to our normal summer service time of 10:00am starting next Sunday. Please call Lori in the office to let us know that you are planning to attend (unless you signed up today for next week).

Here is the link to today's service. I hope you will enjoy it.

2ND SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY - JUNE 21, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

I hope you are all well. We had our second Sunday of services today at 9:00 and 11:00am and things went quite well. It is good to be able to see people face to face (even while wearing a mask). I wanted to let you know that this coming Sunday June 28th we will be having communion. We will be following all of the measures that the Vestry and I put in place.

We will be serving both bread and wine. I will be serving the bread while wearing gloves and the wine will be served in the little cups (we will not share the chalice). Please let Lori know in the office if you are planning to attend so that we can prepare for your arrival (unless you signed up for one of the services this morning). Thank-you for your understanding and patience. Thank-you to all who are volunteering to help screen and direct people during this ongoing situation.

In Christ,

Jonathan

1ST SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY - JUNE 14, 2020

Dear Parishioners of Good Shepherd,

I hope you are starting to enjoy the summer weather. I wanted to send you a quick e-mail update. We had our first services this morning at 9:00 and 11:00am and I think they went quite well. I believe we had 17 at our 9:00am service and 39 at our 11:00am service. Thank-you to Sharon, Lori, Jeff, Bruce, David, Patti, Heather, and everyone who contributed to make the services possible. We were encouraged to see so many people out even with all of the changes we have had to make to mitigate the risk of Covid 19. We wanted to give a chance for feedback of today's services as we will discuss how things went at our regular Vestry meeting this coming Thursday. If you are not attending the services due to restrictions or you wish to give feedback on our operational plan this is your opportunity to do so before our Vestry meeting. If you need prayer or would like a visit please let us know and we will add you to our prayer tree or arrange a visit. Please find attached (at top of this page) our Operational Plan and the invitation for our Online Bible Study.

We did record the service on a video camera and Bruce will be putting it up on Youtube in the next few days for those who cannot come to church for one reason or another. We will send out the link once it is on the web.

Book your spot for services on June 21st by calling Lori in the church office (unless you signed up for next week's service at today's service.)

in Christ,

The Rev. Jonathan Springthorpe

TRINITY SUNDAY - JUNE 7, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

I pray God's blessing upon you this day! I look forward to seeing many of you next Sunday in church!

I am going to repeat myself a bit in this e-mail as I know that there was a lot of information to process from last Sunday.

As you probably know the NB Government has moved us into the Yellow Phase and therefore we will be allowed to offer services for up to 50 people. We will be offering two services which will be identical, one at 9:00am and another at 11:00am. Both services will have music by our beloved David Mitchell but there will be no singing. The reason for not singing is that singing spreads particles from the lungs at a much larger radius than regular talking. Physical distancing will be required for all who attend and we will have pews marked as to where you can sit while maintaining physical distancing of 6ft. We will also be asking everyone 2yrs and over to wear a mask while in the church to provide the safest environment possible especially considering people who are immunocompromised (seniors and people with health conditions). We encourage you to purchase your own mask though we will have a limited supply on hand for $3.00 in case you forget your own. Masks do not have to be a certain material or make but they do need to cover your nose and mouth. We will continue to record the service in some form and make it available to those who are not able to attend one of the services due to health or other reasons.

Booking Your Spot

Each week you will need to contact Lori in the church office (Tuesday to Friday 9-Noon) to book your spot at church. I know this may be an inconvenience but it will help us to prepare for your arrival. We need to record the attendance and keep a log of who was at each church service each day in case a need arises to trace a person who may have come into contact with the virus. I know this is not ideal and it will take some getting used to especially if you are used to attending a service at a particular time but it also is preferable to having to turn people away because a particular service is full. We cannot go above 50 people and this includes the Priest, musicians, readers etc. This is why we are going to offer the same service with music at both times. The time in between services will allow one crowd to leave and another to enter and to allow for some cleaning and disinfecting. If you are a scheduled Reader, Layreader, Musician, Greeter, Counter, or performing a position related to the Covid Operational Plan you will not need to book a spot for yourself.

We will not have Sunday School but we will have activity sheets for children along with markers of crayons. These will be stored in bags and will not be reused until the following week. We will not be using books as the whole service will be on the overhead. If you wish to bring your own Bible you are free to do so. We will not be passing the collection plate but will have two locations for you to give your offering, one at the entry of the church and one as you exit.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of Covid 19 for the health and safety of all we ask you to please remain at home and follow the information given on the NB Government website

https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/corporate/promo/covid-19.html

I know that these changes will be uncomfortable. This is not what we are used to and any time there is change it causes discomfort. I would also remind you that these changes are necessary only while we remain in the Yellow Phase. Once we are in the Green Phase our worship will look a lot more like it did before the Pandemic.

We will have more information later this week.

In Christ, The Rev. Jonathan Springthorpe

Thank-you to David and Joyce Mitchell, Sharon, Marilyn, and Bruce for their contributions to the service.

THE DAY OF PENTECOST - MAY 31, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

I hope you are all doing well or as well as can be during this pandemic. We are finalizing the details of the Covid 19 Operational Plan for The Church of the Good Shepherd. We hope to have it finalized by Tuesday and we will send it out for everyone to read. We are planning at this point to open for worship next Sunday June 7th provided the all clear is given by the Province on Friday June 5th.

As you probably know, if the Province moves us back into the Yellow Phase, our services will only allow for up to 50 people. We will be offering two services which will be identical, one at 9:00am and another at 11:00am. Both services will have music by our beloved David Mitchell but there will be no singing. LAST SUNDAY IN EASTER - MAY 24, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

As you know the New Brunswick Government announced this past Friday that we have moved to the Yellow Phase of reopening organizations and businesses. This includes religious services of up to 50 people provided physical distancing is maintained. Members of Vestry and myself are working on an Operational plan which must be in place before we can resume services. We will be working hard early on in the week and hope to have an announcement of when services will resume at Good Shepherd in the middle of next week. There are many details that we will be working on to make our worship services as safe as possible for all involved. We will not be able to just open the doors to the public without much planning and consideration. We ask for your patience as we work on the Operational plan. Things are going to look different in how we worship we will have more details to you soon.

6th SUNDAY OF EASTER - MAY 17, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

Thank-you to our staff: David, Lori and Larry for their continued work during this difficult period. Thank-you to Bruce and Patti our Wardens and the member of Vestry for their continued effort. As you know the NB Government has begun to lift some restrictions about movement and gatherings. At this point gatherings of 10 or less are permitted but not more.

In the coming weeks if things continue to go well then we will be able to meet in groups of 50 or less provided procedures like social distancing are maintained. Right now the Vestry and I are forming a committee to walk through how we open again for our services. The Bishop met with the clergy of the Diocese this past week and each parish will need to come up with an operational plan in order to reopen for worship. The operational plan for Church of the Good Shepherd will include: 1) Physical distancing, 2) Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, 3) Screening and monitoring and staying home if you are sick, 4) Cleaning and disinfecting, among other items. We will not open for public services without this plan in place. Please bear with us and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

God bless you,

The Rev. Jonathan Springthorpe

5th SUNDAY OF EASTER - MAY 10, 2020

Dear Good Shepherd Family,

Happy Mother’s Day!

Weekly Update:

As you know we are moving in the right direction with the Covid 19 Crisis but we do not have the green light from either the Bishop or the NB Government to meet yet. I will be meeting with the Bishop (and the other clergy) on Monday via Zoom to discuss the situation and to start to put together a picture of what meeting together for public worship might look like. We will be also discussing this on Thursday night at Vestry. We hope to have more to tell you in a week’s time. Stay safe and May God Bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you now and forever more!

Rectory Makeover:

My wife Kristen and I want to thank everyone involved in doing work in the Rectory in preparation and in particular Shayne, Terry and Tim, Margaret Ann, Grenville, Susan and Stephane, Barry, Jerry, Jeff and Nathan, and Bruce. I hope I am not leaving anyone out. The transformation to date is quite striking. Bushes and landscaping has been done, cleaning, carpets removed, and painting among other jobs. Here is the latest installment of our weekly online service. I am not sure if you realize this but to do the online services is quite a process. David Mitchell chooses and arranges the music and records it sometimes with help from Sharon Titus or others. He also records Joyce leading the prayers and reading the Psalm. I prepare the sermon and the rest of the liturgy and then record them usually at home. Then I edit the audio in a video editing software and put it all together. Once I have finished with it then it goes to Bruce MacLeod who creates all of the visuals that you see on the screen. This alone takes hours. Then Bruce uploads it to Youtube and you get to watch and listen to it at home. Many thanks to David and Joyce Mitchell, Elyse Doiron, and Bruce MacLeod for their hard work. We hope you enjoy it and experience spiritual uplifting through the music, prayers and preaching!

4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER - MAY 3, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

We come to the end of another week in this Covid 19 Pandemic. We have some good news to celebrate here in New Brunswick reporting no new COVID-19 cases for 14 consecutive days and the full recovery of all 118 people who had the virus. Thanks be to God! We wait on the government and the Bishop as to when we can meet again. May God bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you now and forever more. Amen.

Thank-you to David and Joyce Mitchell, Sharon Titus, and Bruce MacLeod for their help in putting the service together. They all do a wonderful job.

3RD SUNDAY OF EASTER - APRIL 26, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

This week has been one of tragedy with the death of 23 people in Nova Scotia and I ask for your continued prayers for the family, friends, and co-workers of the 22 victims. I also ask for prayers for the family, friends, and co-workers of the shooter. God knows all need prayer right now. Patti Skidmore rang our church bells 22 times once for each of the victims in the violent rampage. Many other churches sounded their bells as a way to remember those lives lost.

On the one hand this week has been filled with tragedy and on another there are signs of hope that the social distancing has flattened the curve of new cases in New Brunswick and across parts of Canada. We cannot yet meet in person to hold services but there is light at the end of the tunnel. We will wait to hear from Bishop David Edwards as to when we can resume services. I will let you know as soon as I know.

Thank-you to all who have maintained their giving to the church during this difficult time.

If you are able, you can drop off your offering at the office from Tuesday to Friday between 9am and noon. Or you can sign up for e-offering or choose to do an e-transfer of funds. The information is on our website https://www.goodshepherdsj.ca/

Here is the link to the video for tomorrow's service. Thank-you to David and Joyce Mitchell and Bruce MacLeod for their continued work on these services.

A NOTE FROM OUR RECTOR AND LINK TO MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE

Dear Good Shepherd Family,

I know this Holy Week is unusual and I don't know about you but it really is difficult not being able to get together in person. Below is the link for the Maundy Thursday Service though it is modified to fit into an online format. Thank-you to David and Joyce Mitchell, Sharon Titus, and Bruce Macleod for all of their work on this service and the Good Friday and Easter Sunday services. May God bless you this Easter weekend. I look forward to when we can meet in person.

In Christ,
The Rev. Jonathan Springthorpe

A NOTE FROM OUR RECTOR - APRIL 4, 2020

Dear Good Shepherd Family,

Here is a link to the Palm Sunday Service recorded for tomorrow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LoIKOMwNqc

I pray it will bless you in this difficult time. Thank-you to David Mitchell, and Joyce Mitchell and the Bruce MacLeod for their help in putting this service together. As you know we are still prohibited from meeting as we endeavor together to "flatten the curve" and slow the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic. We are putting together services for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. We are looking at putting on an online Bible Study in the coming weeks.

If you need to talk or would like a prayer then please contact us and we will be in touch.

May God bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you, now and forever more. Amen

A NOTE FROM OUR RECTOR - MAR 19, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

The COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly. Until further notice our parish has been directed by the Diocese and the government to cease worship services and all non-essential gatherings of any kind. We will do our best in the coming days and weeks to communicate updates as this situation unfolds.

In the meantime, here are some important things to note:

We will be producing and posting a Service of the Word each week with music, readings, prayers, and a sermon. We will have it posted to Youtube by Saturday each week. The first is available here at this link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fkhz_9s1uyw&t=842s You will need a Book of Alternative Services if you wish to pray through the liturgy. You can download one for free at https://www.anglican.ca/wp-content/uploads/BAS.pdf

The Diocese is producing an online and over the phone Litany Service at 6pm from Monday to Saturday. It is called Litany @ 6. We will publish a link on Facebook (and here on our website).

Thank you to everyone who is able to still continue with your regular offerings - electronic or otherwise. Whether you are able to still give offerings or not is secondary to the trust that we have in God that our needs both as individuals and as a church family can be met. Lori will be in the church office for her regular hours (Tuesday-Friday 9:00- noon)

If you are willing to consider E-Offering, please look at the application form attached to the top right of this page or accessed from a link on the home page of this website. Lori Maker (635-8145) is your contact if you have any questions or wish to begin with E-Offering.

Pastoral care is still offered as usual with the exception that access has been restricted at the hospitals unless there is a life-threatening emergency - and even then only one visit will be allowed. Please let Jonathan know if you are admitted to the hospital under these conditions or if you would like a pastoral visit (506)-343-7748.

If you need any practical help for example a drive to the grocery store or pharmacy please contact the church office as there are people who are willing to help you in this difficult time.

If someone is on your mind then reach out and call them. Look to God the author and finisher of our faith. He is able to uphold us and help us to stand even in the darkest hour. May God bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you now and forever more.

In Christ,

The Rev. Jonathan Springthorpe
